Considering I scored last minute reservations 24 hours before arriving, I was happy. However, the hotel rooms reserved were super small (the Queen bed promised was more like a double), but otherwise reasonable accomodations for the price. Sort of wish I could have scored a cabin. Next time... The employees at the Lodge made up for anything lacking in the rooms. Highly recommend you spend some time on the patio sitting in front of the fire. Beware: if you tend to have altitude sickness, you will probably need to take it easy. The North Rim and the lodge sit at almost 9000 feet.

This is one of those amazing lodges that exist in our National Park System with the most amazing viewing room of the canyon. We were there during a thunderstorm and the view was incredible. The dining lodge is really sub-par but the rest of the accommodations, ranger services, etc are great. On a side note we had a person in our party with a health issue and they handled it so discreetly and efficiently I was very impressed. It was one gentlemen's first day there (Craig) and he was stellar. Thank you Grand Canyon for an amazing vacation!

Loved. This. Place. Cabins are super-adorable and quiet and very well-maintained. Staff could not be friendlier or more accommodating. We found the restaurant a little slow (but it was packed crowded) but the food was outstanding and that view...what can you say? We'll definitely be back.

I give this lodge an upstanding review for the restaurant. It was morning and after a long hike, so the breakfast I had was outstanding. A little pricey, but that's to be expected when you go to a national park. I was a little turned around looking for the shops, so that confusion warrants the four stars. What I had at the restaurant was a nice french toast, coffee, juice and water. It was enough to energize me for the rest of the day. The waiters made you feel welcome, which is always a plus I look for. It really didn't take that long to get the food, so I'd say it was worth the time.

The view is amazing, the food good and the waiters well mannered. They all seemed ready to serve you minus the Hostess. She was matter of fact and happy to not provide service. We were told by our waiter that we could return for desert and they would fix us one to go. When we return the hostess read us the "to bad so sad" story and seemed happy they wouldn't be able to serve us. We would have said something but her joy in not serving us caught us off guard. We would still recommend dining there just be ready for a hostess that doesn't enjoy her job.

Off the charts amazing place! We ended up here very last minute and I asked the reservation desk if maybe today would be our lucky day since rooms are booked 6+ months in advance. And it was! We got a Western Room (see photos) not sure why other people say they are small, they are pretty average sized for a regular hotel room. Two queens, fireplace, small vanity room that is also a closet. And two old fashioned rocking chairs in the porch which my boys never got off of. The restaurant Had great food, very reasonably priced food and off the charts views! Lunch was $10-18 per person and breakfast is around $8-10 unless you do the $14 buffet. Yes, they have kids menus. Our family definitely wants to come back!

Seldom has so many things gone wrong in a restaurant! We were very tired and hungry after a long hike and looked forward to a nice dinner - the thought of a good, succulent steak was what kept me going in the steep hills of the Kaibab Trail. When staying at the Grand Canyon Lodge, you don't have that many options for dinner, so our expectations wasn't that great, but we never thought it would be this bad. First: the positive: We came down to the restaurant 10 minutes before our reservation, and was seated right away. Then, the negatives: -It took forever for someone to come with menues after we were seated - we didn't get a wine menu, when we asked for one, it took forever for it to come -it took forever for someone to take our order -it took forever to get the food -when my steak came, they had forgotten to add the mushrooms that were part of the dish, and when I asked for it, it took forever for it to be brought out -my sirloin was really dry, my husbands pasta was really bland, luckily the portions were small -our waitress never asked us how the food was -when we asked for the bill, they tried to overcharge us, by putting this we didn't order on the menu The conclusion: don't eat there. Mountain House's freeze dried stuff is gourmet in comparison.

This is for the restaurant. What a great view for dinner! Most of the menu is locally sourced, and the restaurant tries to be green where they can. The service is excellent, the servers are obviously well trained. The garlic bread they serve is amazing with full cloves of garlic within. The elk chili and their soup du jour (spicy cream of salmon) was fantastic! I ordered the venison meatloaf, and was surprised that my half serving was plated with two giant slices! I was sure they made a mistake with the meatloaf portion, but lo, when the bill came, it really was the half portion. They have a pretty extensive wine list, and you can order some unique cocktails with fun names. The uncanny thing that bothered me was how we were surrounded by older patrons. Not one person seated for dinner was younger than 45.

We stayed one night, they had a cancellation. There was some smoke and haze in air from fires, near Sedona,AZ. It was clean in the cabin. I found food in Lodge restaurant was good, for dinner and breakfast, little pricey but you can expect that. Views were fantastic. Mule ride was fun. We enjoyed our stay, definitely would love to go back. We saw deer, bison. Little cold in morning, but weather was great.

We stayed 2 nights on the North Rim at GCL--one night in a Pioneer cabin, and one in a Western cabin. For the money, I enjoyed the Pioneer more. A previous reviewer commented on how you can hear through the walls if you and another party are sharing a cabin, but we had one all to ourself. It was really awesome. Our party consisted of 3 people, myself and my parents, so I bunked in one of the bunkbeds while they took the double bed in the other room. I thought the design of the cabins hit the exact right compromise between rustic feel (walls and furniture) and modern comfort (refrigerator, coffee pot, shower). I would have happily stayed several nights. As for the Lodge itself, you are somewhat limited in the choices you have as far as dining, but remember--this is the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. If I went again, I think I would probably stay in the campground. It's a little more affordable.

This review is for the restaurant at this lodge, located on the North Rim of Grand Canyon National Park. Food here is at best average; but the spectacular views of the canyon and the ambiance of the lodge more than make up for it. Don't order their version of tomato soup because it tastes more like spaghetti sauce. Actually, my wife said the waiter told me it actually was marinara sauce; but I really wasn't listening. My bad, too busy taking in the views. But still, I'm not a fan of passing off spaghetti sauce as soup. I thought I saw a snack bar at the front of the hotel. Next time, I'm going to order a sandwich there and eat it at one of the lookouts for a more cost effective, and probably, more tasty, dining option.

The service was meh which takes the whole place down a notch. Oh, and it's rustic... while we were there the power went out. All that can't defeat the spectacular location, the grand proportions, the history.

Like I'm going to change anyone's mind with this review. It's the only place to stay within the park, and the nearest town's like 30 miles away, so... even with the two stars, I'd rather stay here than drive 30 miles. But I feel my Yelp duty beckoning me regardless. One plus: the heater was great! You know how most hotels have heaters that are large and cumbersome and squeaky and sound like a traffic accident whenever they turn off or on and yet somehow still don't keep the room warm? Yeah. Well, this one was just a panel in the ceiling that silently radiated heat. Sweet! Otherwise, it was pretty bad. We were in the motel, not the cool little cabins, so we were far away from absolutely everything. The shower wasn't big enough to turn around in... I chose to stay dirty rather than shower in it. The rollaway bed was so thin that you could feel every slat of the frame, so I put it on the floor. I may as well have just slept on the floor. Luckily, though, we didn't go to the Grand Canyon to hang around in our hotel room, so it mattered less than it should have. And one other note, though not exactly related to our room: the food we had at the lodge proper was the best National Park Service food either of us had ever had! That is to say, I wouldn't give it negative-1 star. In the outside world, it might merit two or three. If you've been to many national parks, you know that getting merely edible food is a victory.

Good european-style food (moderate fat, genuine variety of choices), ok breakfast buffet, very charming rim-side cabins. Only draw-back were those awful, worn-out mattresses. Otherwise five-star experience.

Phew!!! We barely squeaked into this place after trying for several weeks to get reservations. I suggest that you book as early as possible if you want to get in here. We got in by calling EVERYDAY and asking if they had a cancellation. One day I got lucky and they did. The accommodations here are not bad at all if you consider that you are 75 miles from anywhere and anywhere is pretty small too. TheLodge is an amazing National Park Gem and the lodging is located outside the lodge on the grounds surrounding. The room we had was a Western Cabin. It was well appointed, but a little cramped (expected for something built in 1920). It had two queen beds, a nice gas fireplace that we didn't use (too warm), A small bath with all the amenities and a little closet/dressing room that held the coffee maker. There are no USA Today's here, no TV's here and no phones here. Get over it and get over it fast. YOU ARE NOT AT THE NORTH RIM FOR THESE THINGS. Get outside and enjoy the most amazing views in the world! Enjoy the wildlife and get up and AMAZE at the Sunrise! I give this place 4 stars. I take away a star because dinner and breakfast in the lodge were not great and not worth the money, but once again, you are 75 miles from anywhere and this is the only food around. I guess you HAVE to like it or bring in your own. One, last thing. They turn the bar into a coffee bar in the morning. The coffee beats Starbucks by a 100 miles (Not hard to do) and is actually cheaper! Free refills too if you keep your cup! Oh, one more thing! Turn off your cell phone for God's sake! Some guy was standing on a little hill at the edge of the canyon where you get that one little bar of cell service.... He was holding some sort of meeting. Talking really loud. Reminding us all of the work piling up at home. If you have to have a meeting then get out of the North Rim. You shouldn't be there!

Not much of an option coming out this way but at this time of the year, it's reasonably priced. We were able to stay in the hotel/motel room the first night we were there. Late check in and I slept on the cot. After the first night we checked into the top of the line cabins which was great. Dont expect a TV in the cabins though cuz there aint none--sorry kiddies! The food at the lodge can be very pricey even at the general store so it would be to your advantage to stock up on fruits and other food beforehand. There is a restaurant and the cafe which is extremely overpriced. There are camping grounds close by to the lodge, with laundry area and showers. There is a spring close by so you dont need to worry about buying water and instead just refill your bottles. Also, on site are a post office, saloon, tourist center, gift shop and clean bathrooms all right there close to the lobby of the lodge. There are bike rentals available as well. Lotsa walking overall but I enjoyed the trails. Every so often I would have to stop along a jogging trail to take in the view. Make sure you catch the sunrise and sunset---magnificent! For all the people who cannot live without internet access. There is absolutely no wifi except at the general store and even that can suck. Overall cell phone service is almost non existent. For ex. the only person who had cell phone service was the one with an iPhone with service thru ATT. For the rest of us, we had to use the payphones nearby the lobby. On the deck at night it's beautiful. We happen to be there when the guys with all their telescopes. So many stars up high!! It's freezing cold at night and this was June. Make sure you bring a sweatshirt or something if you are headed there in the summer. It's freeeezzingggg. On my last night there, I was thankful I had gloves but even that wasnt enough----I needed a heavy blanket to cover me up. I loved that the deck has a great big fireplace. Also, there are chairs(not soft comfy ones either)that you can sit and lounge in while checking out the view on the deck! One other thing---watch out for the deers running across the road on your drive up at night!!! My last night there I had the Prime Rib with Baked potato, about 27 bucks which is the norm at any restaurant. If you plan on dining at the restaurant make sure you make reservations in advance because they get booked up. However, there is one server that circulates the lobby and deck area taking drinks and food orders so you can still order food to go. If you plan on sleeping in the Grand Canyon make sure to reserve a year in advance!

First, I give the Western Cabin partial view 4 1/2 stars. The only negative was the lock to the cabin door was difficult to open (specifically #331) It took time to fiddle open which at $200+ a night was below expectation...At check out I reported to front desk person for sake of next guest & the response was deer in headlights/blank stare. At minimum you would expect "Thank you for letting us know. I will report it to Maintenance." Overall, room was clean & cozy and worth the experience. Next, the Dining room 3 1/2 stars. Service was very good both at dinner & breakfast. Wished the wine list featured more wines from Arizona. The venison for dinner was dense & just okay. The scallops were good. At breakfast, my guests each ordered the oatmeal....portion is big. I got two egg, bacon, potato, & toast...the bummer here was that potatoes arrived cold & there was a hair in my potatoes. Typically I would have shared with the Waiter, but I was with my guests & I didn't want to tarnish their dining experience. Saloon was fine. Had a late evening snack...combo pizza was ok... Here's what rocked- the Forest Rangers were superb. I sat in two presentations/talks and both Rangers were knowledgeable & seemed to dig their jobs & what they had to share!!! The park & views are amazing - way better than south rim. It's difficult to get to the north rim but well worth the effort!

This review is for the Grand Canyon Lodge Restaurant. If anything, this restaurant is efficient but our dining experience here was just average, as you are really just paying for the view. Luckily, we were able to get an early dinner reservation and enjoyed a table close to the windows around sunset. Unfortunately, since there was a small fire burning on the S. Rim, we didn't get much in the way of a spectacular sunset. My husband and I split a shrimp appetizer, which was really good, and the barley soup, which was average. I had the fish/risotto dish for my entrée. I was really looking forward to the risotto, but alas, it wasn't risotto - it was just mushy and bland long-grain rice. Such a disappointment! My husband had the pork chop and seemed to really enjoy his meal. For dessert, we split the crème brulee, which was pretty tasty. As I mentioned before, this place is efficient and it seemed that everything was precisely scheduled. I guess it makes sense, since they want serve as many people as possible, but it made me feel pressured to eat and get out as quickly, not something that you want in "fine" dining. I think we were done with our 4 course meal in slightly over 1 hour. I'm not sure that I would eat here again, but I think that everyone needs to experience it at least once while visiting the North Rim of the Grand Canyon but be prepared to open up your wallet. If you do visit, try to get an early seating so you can make the most of the scenery and sunset.

Well, as you probably know, this is your only option out here. If you are planning in advance - or get lucky with a cancellation - go for a Western Cabin! That's NOT what I was staying in this trip (though I think I stayed there 15-20 years ago), but rather what I looked at enviously from my poor Frontier Cabin. :( The Frontier Cabin had one major draw back - if you have a neighbor (each cabin is split in two - think duplex), you will hear every word of their conversation. The second minor (to major - YMMV) drawback is that these cabins are SMALL. Two adults and luggage was enough to fill this room. The bathroom - stand up shower only - was reasonably sized with nice bath products. But if you are willing to grin and bear it and realize that these cabins are almost 100 years ago, and you are steps from the edge of the Grand Canyon, it makes it okay. The Lodge itself (there are no lodgings in the Lodge) is BEAUTIFUL - with beautiful living room area with floor to ceiling window views of the canyon. The patios - one on each side of the lodge - are incredible. Sitting out there in a rocking chair, feet up on the wall, sipping a glass of wine, waiting for the sunset - THAT'S a way to end a day! Love the Lodge. Will be back to the North Rim. Next time, though, I'm planning ahead and getting a Western Cabin.

the first two nights we stayed in the 'hotel' part, then got a very nice cabin the last night, right next to the rim itself. the restaurant is nothing short of spectacular, where you can sip wine and watch the sunset from their magnificent rimside patio, or eat your breakfast and look out the window and see the canyon fall away next to you. At night, you can sit in a rocking chair in the darkness, and see the moon between the trees, and feel the wind, blowing through a million years of history. There's something really special about being right next to the rim. And the North Rim itself- much better than the South Rim, absolutely worth the extra drive.

They offer a gluten free pasta but do not know how to cook the pasta. Every disappointing, it was over cooked mush. It should not have left the kitchen. Chief, manager and server all need training.

We stayed in the frontier cabins. They were quaint and just what we expected. A real piece of history in one of the greatest national wonders of the world. Gasp! No TV?? Of course not you jackass American slob, you're at the frickin' Grand Canyon, go outside. The lodge itself is okay, I mean, location, location, location, right? Plus it's kinda old, which in a way is really cool. The cookout experience is basically a buffet under a big canvas tent at the campground nearby. If you are looking to stuff your face and listen to some corny country music/standup comedy, go for it. If you are envisioning some relaxed, barbecue grill cookout at sunset overlooking the Grand Canyon, um... no.
